Hello! 🐾

Thanks so much for your interest in becoming a foster carer with Save A Paw NT Inc! We are incredibly grateful for our foster carers — your support allows us to save lives and give animals the time and care they need to find the right forever home. Below is a quick overview of how our foster process works.

Foster Carer Overview

1. Foster Application
You’ll be asked to complete our foster application form. Once approved, we’ll contact you whenever an animal requires a foster home. You can always decide whether you’re available and able to help at that time — there is never any obligation.

2. What’s Involved

Dogs & Puppies: Foster carers provide a safe, secure place, love, and daily care until adoption. We ask that you supply food (a starter amount can be provided if needed).
Cats & Kittens: Cats must be kept strictly indoors. We can provide starter food and litter if required. Cats often take longer to settle, so patience and understanding are important.

3. Veterinary Care
Save A Paw NT Inc covers all veterinary costs, including desexing, microchipping, vaccinations, worming, and flea/tick prevention. Foster carers assist by transporting animals to vet appointments and adoption meet-and-greets, all arranged around your availability.

Our primary clinic is Litchfield Vets in Coolalinga, which also acts as our main drop-off and pick-up location.

4. Training & Socialisation
For puppies, we love when foster carers can work on basic training such as lead walking or simple commands like “sit.” Nothing advanced — just everyday foundations.

5. Updates & Adoption Process
We appreciate regular updates and photos so we can promote each animal effectively. Once an animal has settled (usually around one week), our team begins the adoption process. This involves writing detailed adoption profiles, advertising across platforms, responding to enquiries, reviewing applications, communicating with potential adopters, and organising meet-and-greets — all of which requires significant volunteer time and coordination.

If you feel that you may wish to adopt the animal in your care, you will always be given first priority. We simply ask that you let us know as early as possible, ideally before advertising begins. This helps prevent disappointment for approved adopters, ensures our team’s time is used efficiently, and allows us to keep foster spaces available so we can continue assisting animals in urgent need.

👉Approved foster carers are added to our private foster carer Facebook group, where animals needing foster care are posted first before being shared publicly.

Many animals come into our care scared, unwell, or unsure of the world. By fostering, you are giving them stability, comfort, and a chance to heal while we work toward their future.

Hello! 🐾

Thanks so much for your interest in becoming a bottle baby foster carer with Save A Paw NT! Caring for neonates is one of the most rewarding but also most demanding types of fostering — you are literally their lifeline. Here’s an overview of how our neonatal foster process works:

  1. Foster Form – Please fill out our foster form below. From there, we’ll contact you whenever bottle babies need urgent foster care. You can then decide whether you’re available and able to help at that time. We will also add you into our foster carers facebook group.
  2. What’s Involved with puppies and kittens:

Neonates (0–4 weeks old) require round-the-clock feeding every few hours, including overnight.
They need to be kept warm, toileted after feeds, and closely monitored for any signs of illness.
You’ll need to be available and committed to their care, as their survival depends on it.
We provide formula, bottles, teats, and any extra supplies needed to get you set up.

  3. Vet Care – We cover all medical costs including check-ups, worming, flea/tick prevention, and any urgent care. You’ll just need to bring them to the vet as needed (usually Litchfield Vets in Coolalinga).
  4. Training & Support – Bottle babies don’t need obedience training yet, but they do need patience, gentleness, and consistency. We’ll support you with guides and check-ins.
  5. Updates & Adoption – Once the babies are old enough (usually from 4-6 weeks onward), they’ll start the transition to solid food and prepare for adoption. During this time, your updates are so valuable in helping us share their progress and find them homes.

👉 As part of applying, we’ll ask a few important questions so we can place the right babies with you:

  • Have you had any experience with overnight feeding of animals (domesticated pets or wildlife)?
  • Have you had previous experience with neonatal care of puppies or kittens?
  • How long are you realistically willing/able to foster for during this period?

Many neonates come to us as orphans, sometimes only hours old, and need a carer who can step into the role of “mum.” By fostering bottle babies, you’re giving them their only chance at survival — it’s hard work, but incredibly rewarding.

Thank you for considering opening your heart and home to the tiniest and most vulnerable animals in need. 🤍
