How did Save a Paw NT start?
Our Story
Save A Paw NT was founded in early 2024 by Indy and Meg, two dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Nurses with over 7 years of hands-on experience in the industry. What started as a shared dream has quickly grown into a lifeline for animals in need across the Northern Territory.
In just the first 18 months of operation, we’ve successfully rescued and rehomed over 800 animals. Today, we continue our work with nearly 100 animals in foster care, each one waiting patiently for their forever home.
Save A Paw NT was born out of heartbreak, from witnessing too many animals being euthanised unnecessarily due to homelessness, treatable medical conditions, or financial hardship. We knew something had to change, and we couldn’t stand by while so many innocent lives were at risk.
We give a voice to those who have been overlooked, to act when there’s no other choice left. With so many animals in desperate need of help, we made the choice to eliminate surrender fees; because when rehoming is the only option, cost should never be a barrier. Whether we’re rescuing homeless pets or helping families in crisis, we are here to make sure no animal has to face the world alone.
Our community-first approach and strong local partnerships are at the heart of everything we do. Save A Paw NT isn’t just a rescue, it’s a movement of compassion, hope, and second chances.
With the continued support of our foster carers, volunteers, and local community, we’ll keep fighting to make sure every animal finds a safe, loving home. Because no animal should have to suffer in silence any longer. Together, we’ll make sure their voices are heard.
Our Mission
At Save A Paw NT, we’re here for the ones who have no voice – the abandoned, the injured, the forgotten. Our mission is simple: to give every animal a chance at the life they deserve.
We believe that every animal, no matter their story, deserves compassion, proper care, and the right to live without fear or suffering. That means stepping in when no one else will, providing emergency rescue, safe shelter, and access to essential veterinary care. Whether it’s treating injuries, preventing illness, or simply making sure they’re no longer hungry or alone, we’re committed to protecting their wellbeing.
We are not a big organisation, just a small team with big hearts, doing everything we can for animals across the Northern Territory. Every life we save is a reminder of why we do this. And we’ll keep showing up, one rescue at a time, until no animal is left behind.

At Save A Paw NT Inc, we rely on the kindness of our community to continue our mission. Donations are vital to our work, they are the lifeline that allows us to care for and rehabilitate the animals who need us most.
100% of every donation goes directly into saving the next animal. From the moment an animal comes into our care, we ensure they receive the best possible care. Each pet is desexed, vaccinated, vet-checked, heartworm tested, and given essential parasite prevention for tick/fleas, intestinal worms and heartworm. Some of our animals require medical or even surgical intervention to save their lives and we simply couldn’t do this without the financial support from donors like you.
Whether it’s $10 or $100, every dollar helps. Your donation directly covers the costs of treatments, medications, and procedures that can turn an animal’s life around. It means we can continue to rescue more animals, provide the care they need, and ultimately, find them the loving homes they deserve.

How We Work
Our Rescue Process

Rescue and Foster
In order for us to rescue an animal in need, we must have a foster carer available to take them on as we don’t operate a shelter facility.
All animals that we rescue are vet checked and treated prior to going into foster care.

Meet & Greet, Adoption Trials
Whilst in foster care, we help to facilitate ‘meet & greets’ and adoption trials for people wanting to find their furever friend.
After an adoption application is completed, our Meet & Greet coordinator will be in contact with our foster carers to facilitate a Meet & Greet with their potential adoptive families.

Furever Homes
Once a furever home is found, we take payment from the new guardians and organise all the ownership paperwork including microchip registration; book in future veterinary appointments for vaccinations and desexing (if not already done).
The new guardians would need to register their new pet with their local council.

Fostering is the heart of Save a Paw NT. Without a physical shelter, we rely on everyday people to provide temporary homes for our animals.
